CommuteJournal

CommuteJournal provides privacy-first and passive information about how your employees are travelling to work each day, including multi-modal commutes (park and ride, for instance). Using real-time, high-frequency (not individual) data, you can see if your initiatives are working, straight from their rollout.

CommuteJournal offers privacy to all users, always displaying collective rather than individual data, and only logging data when the user is commuting.

We recommend that CommuteJournal should be used with CommuteBoost to encourage participation from employees, using rewards and incentives to ensure the most comprehensive data.

How does the app log journeys?

Each CommuteJournal user will start by setting up their regular commute window, for instance leaving for work between 7.45 and 8.20 every day. CommuteJournal will only begin logging your commute between these times, and will only log your commute into work.

The employee’s start location, which could be their home or somewhere else, e.g. their partner’s home, is geofenced, meaning CommuteJournal will only start logging their commute when they leave the geofenced location during their commute window. CommuteJournal will stop logging the journey when the employee gets to work. CommuteJournal will only ever run during the commute window.

The employee can also log journeys manually if they prefer. They can end logging at any point on the Mobilityways app.

The data collection piece is absolutely at the forefront of Zero Carbon Commuting. Without that data we can’t make meaningful choices and we can’t invest in the right places and get the most for our money to get the most benefit out of whatever subsidies we have available.

Changing personal behaviours to reduce carbon emissions isn’t a strong enough argument in and of itself for some to change deeply ingrained behaviours. You need to make it personal to people. You need them to understand how to make the switch.
